Some time in 200X, my family and I stayed in a holiday lodge near Loch Bla. One previous occupant left a set of instructions for the cooker in the lodge, saying ..."This may prove helpful". Well it didn't prove helpful to us in any way because, being on a minibreak, we didn't feel the need to cook. Nor did we find it necessary to trawl through the cooker instructions searching for inaccuracies. Oh and it didn't prove helpful to any future holidaymakers as I took them because I found them so amusing. Remember, this guy was on HIS HOLIDAYS. I think it is brilliant. It is written like a training manual or something. It is just so anal and deadpan, and it has a great punchline. Did he really time it!? A scan of the original hand-written sheet along with a transcription is here.

We believe oven in lodge 38 is a "Multifunction 5 functions". Only doubt would seem to be that one of its logos, the one dealing with "THAWING" is incorrect. Setting the Oven With Dials "C" and "D" at zero - but with wall-switch "ON", press "3". Keeping "3" pressed, also press "+" till correct time shows up. NOTE:- Should figures halt at 10:00, as it sometimes does, keep "3" and "+" pressed, but also press "2" a single short press and proceed again. Allow for delays over final figures appearing - alternately follow instructions bottom p8 at Setting the time. 2. TO SET COOKING FINISHING TIME. Do exactly what is stated on P9 under "cooking in semiautomatic mode" NOTE The hand-book states that symbol will go out at end of cooking time - we have reservation - 3 TO SET STARTING TIME |
